The Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) has provided a field hospital to Cairo, Egypt, to help alleviate stress on the Egyptian medical sector.

The field hospital, set up in late 2013 in the heavily populated area of Ein Shams, is run by a staff of about 120 and receives an average of 500 patients each day, the JAF announced.

During a visit to the medical center, Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said the hospital was deployed at the request of King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein as “a mark of gratitude to Egypt and its people for their contributions to the Arab world.”

Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Maha Reyati thanked King Abdullah and Jordanians for “this generous initiative consolidating the brotherly ties between the two peoples.”

This isn’t the first time either country has established hospitals abroad. In 2012, Egypt sent a field hospital to Jordan to aid refugees crossing the Jordanian-Syrian border. Jordan has also set up military hospitals to provide health care in places such as Afghanistan and Libya.
