    Saudis Seek Regional Security

Economic integration creates more prosperous and stable societies

Our region is not separated from the global arena, given that conflict is crossing borders, affecting global security and creating risks for the world’s economy.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has always earnestly pursued political means to overcome crises. We’ve supported economic development as a means to integrate the region. We’ve committed to regional tolerance, cooperation and dialogue and strengthening partnerships.

But crises and wars are steering us toward a dangerous crossroad. It is our responsibility, in cooperation with the global community, to mutually mobilize ourselves to correct course, returning to tolerance and peaceful coexistence, ridding ourselves of wars that are leaving behind thousands of victims.

Our pivotal goal for political security is to focus on the challenges standing in the way of a better future. This goal is achievable, but requires commitment, effort and courage by all parties, who must de-emphasize personal- or self-interest.

Peace requires the sincere participation of all sides in a conflict. When it comes to Saudi Arabia, the path to peace is clear despite obstacles along the way. To preserve credibility, the global community should join with Saudi Arabia and other dedicated countries to translate words into action to achieve peace and security.

It is high time for us to unfreeze peace efforts. This includes resolving the conflict in Gaza to everyone’s satisfaction and ensuring a ceasefire in Lebanon to rid that country of humanitarian suffering. As for other crises — in places such as Sudan and Libya — we should avoid violence and military action in favor of a political solution that respects national sovereignty. The alternative is accelerating humanitarian crises and risk of societal collapse.

The kingdom’s vision is to support sustainable socioeconomic development through a foreign policy aimed at creating a brighter reality that will benefit the entire region. We’ve invested in regional stability and mutual security by empowering unity among brotherly nations based on international dialogue while mediating peace efforts.

Current events are worrying. But the kingdom foresees a cooperative future in the Middle East, given the region’s ample resources, talented people, and geographical proximity to three continents. Economic integration and prosperity require peace and stability. Political feuds and zero-sum strategies have no place in this enlightened future.

We look forward to pursuing an alternative path by which we can advance together, rejecting narrow self-interest as we ensure a better future for the people of the region.
