Qatar was the focus of a European Union mission designed to improve regional security in light of the wars
in Syria and Yemen.
A visiting delegation from the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee met in February 2016 with the Qatari emir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, speaker of the Advisory Council. The delegation was accompanied by EU Ambassador Adam Kulach.
During meetings with Qatari officials, the delegation discussed security in the region, particularly in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya and Egypt. Participants emphasized the need for further diplomatic dialogue between the EU and Qatar regarding the shared commitment to peace and stability in the region.
The EU delegation said it considers Qatar an important partner that is contributing to peace and stability in the Middle East and North Africa.
The EU expressed its commitment toward finding a solution to the Syrian crisis. The first step is a diplomatic approach and the search for a political and peaceful long-term solution within the series of international involvements, such as the international support group for Syria.
