Qatar International Academy for Security Studies

The Qatar International Academy for Security Studies (QIASS) and the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT) – The Hague want to expand cooperation between their two organizations, citing areas of mutual interest that include countering violent extremism, crafting counternarratives and rehabilitating violent extremists. In February 2013, members of the two groups gathered in the Netherlands to explore possibilities and sign a memorandum of understanding.

QIASS is a professional institute working to raise security standards, knowledge and cooperation. The organization serves multiple market sectors including government, commercial and nonprofit within the Gulf region and around the world. It works collaboratively with clients, often partnering with leading global education and strategic policy organizations.

ICCT – The Hague is an independent think tank and knowledge hub that focuses on preventive and international legal aspects of counterterrorism. The group connects academics, policymakers and civil society practitioners by providing a platform for collaboration, practical analysis, and exchange of experiences and expertise. ICCT’s ultimate aim is to identify innovative, effective, and comprehensive approaches to preventing and countering terrorism.

“Over the coming years, ICCT and QIASS aim to increase their cooperation through joint meetings and exchanges to further the knowledge in the important area of countering violent extremism,” ICCT Director Peter Knoope said as he welcomed delegates. “Making use of the full potential of the expertise and geographical reach of both institutions, this collaboration is sure to lead to innovative projects with an impact on policy and practice.”

QIASS Director Martin Reardon added: “It’s a great honor to be partnering with the ICCT, and it’s a testament to the vision of the leadership of both our centers that we are focusing on the problems of tomorrow.”
