KING’S COLLEGE LONDON
Qatari Armed Forces will tap the expertise of King’s College London in a new venture at the recently established Joaan Bin Jassim Joint Command and Staff College in Doha.
The Joaan Bin Jassim College opened in May 2013 and is based on the United Kingdom’s Joint Services Command and Staff College at the U.K. Defence Academy. King’s Defence Studies Department, the U.K. Ministry of Defence and Serco will deliver postgraduate education to senior members of the Qatari Armed Forces for an initial three years.
The program is designed for select midcareer officers (majors and lieutenant colonels) from the Qatari Emiri Guard, Navy, Army and Air Force and is modeled upon the renowned King’s and Ministry of Defence program at the U.K. Joint Services Command and Staff College for the past 14 years.
“We are delighted to announce this partnership and venture. King’s has a reputation as the pre-eminent provider of military education globally,” said Professor Denise Lievesley, head of the School of Social Science and Public Policy at King’s. “As well as the in-depth knowledge our staff offers in defense studies, there are great opportunities for research and the chance to create a world-class security studies center in the region. I am very grateful to the Qataris for this exciting and unique opportunity.”
