Highlighting the growing professionalism of Middle Eastern militaries, Gen. Sedki Sobhi, Egypt’s minister of defense and commander of the Egyptian Armed Forces, praised graduates of the nation’s military colleges and institutions in January 2015. The celebration was held at the Egyptian Military Academy in Cairo with students from Egypt as well as Soldiers from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait and Bahrain.

As part of the ceremony, the new graduates showed off their skills with weapons and martial arts, including displays of combat tactics and teamwork. Gen. Sobhi presented awards to students who graduated with honors, and he presided as the new graduates took their military oaths. In his speech, Gen Sobhi highlighted the Armed Forces’ determination to fulfill their national duties alongside the police. He expressed confidence that they will overcome challenges and uproot the extremism and terrorism that threaten national security and stability.

He repeatedly affirmed that the Armed Forces will not tolerate nefarious attempts from those who want to harm Egyptians and destabilize security. Egypt will always be for all Egyptians, he said. He also highlighted the importance of training and military academies that keep Egyptian forces current with the latest technology and military innovations.
