A military exercise named Zayed-1 brought together Egyptian and Emirati forces in Abu Dhabi in March 2014.
The joint training was the largest military exercise ever held between the two countries. It was designed to strengthen the historic and military ties between Egypt and the United Arab Emirates and boost military readiness by improving integration and expertise.
The joint forces — made up of artillery units, special forces, paratroopers, and marine and mechanized infantry forces — took part in specialized training and drills involving naval ships, aircraft such as the F-16 and Mirage 2000, and assault helicopters.
Leaders from the two countries spent time greeting the forces during the exercise and praised their performance: UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Gen. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; and Egyptian Field Marshal Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Saudi Deputy Minister of Defense Prince Salman Bin Sultan Bin Abdulaziz also attended.
